The TROPOS PollyXT lidar “Arielle” is operating in almost 24/7 basis since 18th of June at Finokalia station by Ronny Engelmann. On 20th of June, Panos Kokkalis started the operation of the EMORAL lidar as well. The two lidars were operating together for approximately 3 hours. These collocated measurements will be used to test EMORAL operation against the qualified retrievals of PollyXT. Our objective is to ensure that EMORAL is capable of providing consistent lidar products with the ones of PollyXT. Working to that end, we intent to perform a number of Quality Assurance (QA) tests following the protocols defined by the well-known EARLINET network. From the 21st of June, Volker Freudenthaler, one of the EARLINET specialists, will join CHARADMexp to help improving the operation of the EMORAL system. The final objective is to achieve a consistency between the two lidar systems so as to utilize the mobility of EMORAL in order to follow the flights that will be performed by the UAV fleet of the Cyprus Institute. This will allow us to study the horizontal aerosol variability in the geographical area covered by our instrumentation.
