The Met Office is the United Kingdom's national weather service. It is an executive agency and trading fund of the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills and is also a member of the Public Data Group.The Met Office makes meteorological predictions across all timescales from weather forecasts to climate change.

To support it's goales, Met Office is developing and improving techniques for processing satellite imagery data, in order to support nowcasting, forecasting, Numerical Weather Prediction and climate applications.

The key aims of this efforts are:

  • To develop and improve the generation of satellite imagery data and products in support of nowcasting and forecasting.
  • To improve forecast accuracy through better assimilation of satellite imagery data into the Unified Model.
  • To provide guidance on the utilisation of satellite data for climate applications.

Beyond project logo

CHARADMexp is supported by the BEYOND Centre of Excellence, in the frame of the satellite cal/val activities performed by the Centre. LIVAS climatology as well as the smoke dispersion and dust services provided by BEYOND will be validated through the CHARADMexp campaign.

ACTRIS provides support to CHARADMexp participants by offering access to the Finokalia research facilities through the Transnational Access activity of the Network.
